Automotive - Areas of use

Metawell® is mainly used as load-bearing slab or light stiffening element with little overall thickness in automobiles, utility cars and caravans.

Automobiles

The technical characteristics of Metawell® as rigid, thin panel with a high strength and an even surface can be used among others in / as:

  • cover plate in the boot
  • loading soil (e.g. double trunk bottoms)
  • cargo fixing (crash)
  • load bearing slabs to increase the stiffness of the car body
  • seating systems (e.g. support structure back seat rest)
  • load-bearing structure in space-frame constructions

Utility cars

Metawell® has been successfully used for years now mainly as big-sized load-bearing structure or as lining element, for instance for:

  • laterial linings / cowls
  • stable walls (e.g. back wall and roof of a driver's cabin)
  • shear-resistant partitions
  • rigid load-bearing structures for fittings (e.g. shelves)

The following applications have proven themselves particularly in the bus industry:

  • luggage floors in coaches
  • stiffening of side lids (Metawell® Aluflex)
  • access aids (e.g. electrical and manual ramps)
  • covers and servicing drops in the floor

Caravans

Technically and economically convincing light-construction characterizes the fittings (cupboard, kitchenet, roof storing units, tables and bedplate) in the new VW California. The basic reasons to use Metawell® have been:

  • reduction of weight and gain of storing space
  • rigidity and crash behaviour of the furniture
  • possibility of shaping
  • recycling / "EU-old vehicle regulation"
